Gone are the days of patchy hair plugs or wigs. Nowadays, everyone can enjoy fuller and natural-looking hair despite hair loss. At HairSure Clinic, our customers are from all over the world and include all age groups, men and women. We get asked lots of questions during the initial consultations, which is natural and good too. But it’s also essential to know the right questions to ask, so we have put together our guide to the most important questions to ask at your hair transplant consultation. Well, let’s get started !!!
Is hair transplant surgery right for me?
One might wonder why will I not be a suitable candidate. The main factors that your surgeon will consider are age, pre-existing health conditions, and availability of donor’s hair. One should not go for hair transplant surgery at a young age, mainly if it is caused due to hereditary. Since the new hair may again fall off, it is good to wait until a mature age for the transplant. A person with uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension should control those conditions before surgery. If the bald area is large and there is no required amount of donor hair area, it would also be challenging to achieve the desired results. But one thing to keep in mind is even if one is not suited for transplant surgery, our HairSure Clinic’s experts will suggest alternate medications, oils, therapies to regain or slow the loss of your hair.
What should I know about my hair transplant surgeon?
Though the hair transplantation technique is advanced and gives incredible results, the success largely depends on the surgeon. We are happy to inform you that all our surgeons have more than a decade of experience in bringing smiles to our customers’ faces. HairSure Clinic has been voted the “Best Hair Transplant Clinic” by Times Health India Survey, 2021.
How should I prepare for the Hair Transplant surgery?
You should inform your health condition clearly to the doctor, including any allergies. One must stop smoking for 2 weeks before the surgery to have the best result. Blood thinners should be stopped a day or two as suggested. Get good rest on the night before the surgery. Shampoo your hair for two days before the surgery. Do not apply any styling gels, oil, creams etc., to the hair on the day of the surgery. Go with clean, dry hair.
Should I get any tests done before the surgery?
A few routine blood tests are prescribed by your surgeon, to check if there is any undetected health condition. These tests include CBC, HCV, Bleeding time, clotting time, PT, APTT, Random blood sugar, HBs AG, HIV ELISA, ECG(EKG).
What will the day of the surgery look like?
Please make sure you have someone to drive you back home since you will be under the influence of anaesthesia, and it is not advised for you to drive by yourself. During your previous consultations itself, the number of sessions will be planned. Depending on the technique selected FUE, FUT, Sapphire transplant, you might need one or more sessions. You will be given mild anaesthesia. Each session can last up to 2-4 hours, which is again very dependent on the technique employed. A hospital stay is usually not needed, so you can go back home on the same day.
What will be the recovery experience after the surgery?
Within two weeks, you will recover from the effects of the surgery, i.e. the swelling and scabbing will reduce. After 2 weeks of an FUE hair transplant is generally when your transplants will scab over and fall out. We will guide you on how to take care of the donor and recipient sites during these 2 weeks. You should sleep with your back straight in an upright position. Do not scratch the head. Avoid strenuous exercise since it will cause sweating. Take your medication regularly to help reduce swelling bruising and prevent any infections.
Should I choose FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) or FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation?
FUE is a modern technique where individual hair follicles are removed and transplanted. In FUT which is a slightly older method, a strip of donor’s hair is removed and transplanted. FUE has less recovery time and less visible scarring. But be sure to discuss with your doctor first the pros and cons of both methods.
When should I expect to see the results of my hair transplant?
As soon as you decide to go for surgery, set your mind that the results of a transplant are not instant. The newly transplanted hair will fall off, and new hair will grow in that palace. So this will take a while, which could be roughly 10 to 12 months for the final result to be visible. Manage your expectations and be regular with your follow-ups.
When will there be a need for a second hair transplant?
The second hair transplant depends on the cause of hair thinning. If there are genetic factors involved, or you had to undergo any cancer treatments, etc., you may require further hair transplants.
