Almost 50 to 100 strands of hairs shed in a day. But it isn’t as much a worry as you think. Here’s why…
Are you noticing too much of your hair going down the drain? Don’t worry, we have just the right remedies, to get your hair fall under control. Some days there’s less hair fall, and sometimes we just despise the amount of hair we are losing.
This is something everyone is familiar with and can be solved in a matter of time! Pollution, dust, stress and not taking enough time to groom your hair, can be one of the reasons for hair fall. Although hair loss is a general concern among all, it can be quite hard to live with and let go. Especially, when there are visible changes in the appearance.
How much of hairs do we lose in a day and why?
Almost everyone loses about an average of 100 strands of hair daily and a few people a bit less. More than 100 strands would be something to take into consideration, due to it being a bit more than the average hair fall. Consulting a hair specialist would help you gain clarity of the problem.
Now talking about hair fall being a regular thing, the 100 strands that fall out is a part of the growth cycle. Scalp hair grows about .3 to .4 mm every day. Human hair growth and hair fall are random and not cyclical. There is also a common myth that hair shedding is seasonal, but it isn’t. There are three stages to the growth and shedding cycle which is bound to take place in a human body. It is regular and does not need to be worried about.
Three stages of hair growth and shedding:
-
Anagen
-
Catagen
-
Telogen
Stage 1: Anagen: Anagen is the active phase in which the cells in the root of the hair divide very fast. A new hair grows and pushes the hair that has stopped growing up to the follicle and eventually out.
Stage 2: Catagen: Catagen is a transitional stage, which lasts for two to three weeks. Hair growth stops and the outer root covering shrinks attaching to the root of the hair.
Stage 3: Telogen: Telogen is the resting phase which lasts for about 100 days for hairs on the scalp. For hairs on the eyelashes, eyebrows, arms, and legs this phase lasts much longer. During this phase, the hair follicle is at rest and the club hairs that are supposed to fall off completely form. About 25 to 100 telogen hairs usually shed each day.
A sneak-peak into hair loss – The Problem
Losing more than 100 strands per day, usually starts at the age of 50. But in some people it could occur even before. This could be genetic or due to pollution, poor health conditions, etc. Hair damage can happen as a result of many other reason like poor food habits and malnutrition as well. Poor nutrition causes the hair to become weak and brittle.
So It is crucial to know the warning signs of hair loss before you worry for normal hair shedding.
