FUE – Follicular Unit Extraction is one of the most beneficial Hair Transplant Procedure, where the process involves in extracting individual hair follicles by a fine punching machine either manually or by a motorized machine.
The extraction of the hair follicle leaves a small circular incision on the scalp. In order to justify this International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery(ISHRS) called FUE as “Follicular Unit Excision”.
Punch size used for the extraction will be 0.9 to 1 mm for scalp and 0.75 to 0.8 mm for a beard. The holes made will heal within a day or two. Fast healing and speedy recovery is the main advantage of FUE procedure. If the procedure is handled by an expert hair transplant surgeon practically there might be no visible scar in the donor area.
FUE technique has improved a lot over the last 20 years. FUE used to be done for a small number of grafts only and used in support of FUT. It was even said to be impossible to do mega sessions to cover large baldness. But now it is the most trending procedure in hair transplantation.
This is a time-consuming procedure because extracting 3000 grafts or more was very difficult. But now with the advanced technology surgeons can extract ‘N’ number of grafts.
The donor area is extended to the other areas other than scalps like beard, chest, abdomen, and other extremities. A surgeon can extract now as many as 8000-9000 grafts with FUE technique from different donor areas in 2 to 3 sessions of the hair transplant that can cover full head baldness.
