It’s easy to get tempted by a cheaper price. And there is nothing wrong in it; in fact, cost optimisation is a very good trait. But you must also be careful that you do not give up on other important factor like quality and safety on the way of saving a few bucks.
And this brings us to today’s topic – why you should not take a cheap hair transplant treatment.
To understand the cost optimisation in a hair transplant treatment, you first need to know what goes in cost of the surgery. Obviously, you have the cost of the medical tools and medicines. The quality of the medicines, the technology of the equipment used also make a different. Apart from that, you also pay for the surgeon’s expertise which serves as a guarantee for good quality outcome for your hair transplant surgery.
Now, let’s see what happens when you go for a cheaper alternative. Ask yourself this – what is they cutting out from the entire procedure? Why is it that they can sell the service at a cheaper price but not the others? Surely, they are not cutting on their profit margin – they are not a non-profit organisation, are they?
Poor Final Outcome
The first thing you might notice in a clinic offering cheaper service is that they are a new-found clinic which is run by inexperienced or unauthorised health care professionals. They are more keen on attending to more cases and pay less attention in the final outcome or long-term patient satisfaction.
Non-adherence To Promises
Such clinics promise, say 4000 grafts, but in real, they only put in, say 3000 grafts. During the procedure, how likely is it that you are keeping a track of how many grafts they are actually transplanting? You will probably just sleep through the surgery. So, you will never know how many grafts they are planting and hence, they can do the surgery for a lower cost. Sounds like fraudulence? Well, it is.
Extra Extraction
Again, owing to their lack of experience, they are less likely to use each extracted graft successfully for plantation in the recipient area. So, if you require say, 5000 grafts, they would extract 10000 grafts to obtain the same. This, though, will not cause any impact in the recipient area, but the donor area will have very less hair follicles left as most of the grafts can become transected. So, the hair in the donor area post-surgery will be less dense.
Low Survival Rate On Grafts
Okay, now this is the scenario – extracted grafts: 10000; implanted grafts: 5000. How many of them will survive and grow healthy hair? When performed by an expert surgeon, the success rate is 95% – 99%. But when a surgery is done by a novice or a technician as done in the low cost centers, the success rate can fall down to as low as 50%, meaning, only 2500 grafts will survive out of 5000 implanted grafts. Now, look at the bigger picture. You started with 10000 grafts. So, your donor area lost 10000 hair follicles but your recipient area has received only 2500 grafts. That’s a success rate of only 25%.
Compromise On Outlook
Have you noticed how your hair grows in a pattern following a definite direction? The hair at the back side of your head grows downwards. Now imagine, what will happen if the hair in your front start growing downwards? It will block your vision. Each hair follicle grows in a precise angle and hence, each transplantation should be done in that precise angle. If that precision is not maintained, the final outlook will not look natural at all. It will look like a bunch of loose hair has been thrown on your head.
Now, if you go to a hair transplant center who offers a cheaper price and face any of the above issues, what do you do? You go for a correction surgery and end up paying probably more than double for the correction procedure and a fresh hair transplant. And that is the compensation that you can get away with if you are lucky. In most cases, a correction surgery is not possible – sometimes you don’t have enough excess hair follicles any more and sometimes, the recipient area cannot take dual transplantation.
However it goes, you end up paying more – either monetarily or aesthetically.
